Overview

About this hardware

A two-screen point of sale for the counter: a 14" tilting display for staff and a separate 8" customer terminal that handles payment, tips and contact capture, with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and LTE fallback.

The Clover Station Duo 2 is a two-screen countertop point of sale. Staff work on a 14-inch tilting display while the customer has their own 8-inch terminal facing them, so payment, tipping, contact capture and loyalty sign-up all happen on the customer's side of the counter rather than by turning a screen around. Both screens use chemically strengthened glass with an anti-fingerprint coating.

It is built for fixed service points with steady throughput: cafes and quick-service restaurants where tipping and order confirmation happen at the till, retail counters that need a customer-facing screen for transparency, and any business collecting email or phone details for a rewards scheme. The dual 5MP cameras support 1D and 2D barcode scanning, which covers barcoded checkout and stock work without a separate scanner.

Connectivity runs over Ethernet or Wi-Fi with 4G LTE as fallback, so card payments continue through a fixed-line outage. The hub provides four USB ports and two cash drawer ports, and the system includes a receipt printer. Payment acceptance covers magnetic stripe, EMV chip and NFC contactless including mobile wallets, with EBT supported.

Two points to settle during setup rather than assume from the hardware: which Clover software plan the system runs, since that determines the available apps and reporting; and whether a cash drawer, additional printer or scanner is needed for your counter layout, as those are separate items. Clover hardware requires a merchant processing agreement.

If you are comparing quotes, check which generation is being offered. The earlier Station Duo has a 7-inch customer display and shipped on an older Android release; the Duo 2 described here has the 8-inch customer screen.

Questions

About the Clover Station Duo 2

Will this work with my processing arrangement?
That is confirmed before anything is ordered. A terminal has to be certified for the acquiring arrangement your account runs on, and Apex checks that against your specific setup rather than assuming it.
Why are there no prices on these pages?
Hardware is quoted against how and where it will be used - how many units, whether they are bought or supplied with an account, and what has to integrate with them. A single published figure would be wrong more often than it was right, so we quote instead.
Why do some products show no specifications?
Apex publishes a specification only after it has been checked against product data. A record marked as an illustrative example represents a category of hardware we can source, and publishes nothing technical at all until there is something confirmed to publish.
What happens when a terminal fails?
Replacement and support terms are agreed as part of the arrangement rather than left to the day it matters. Ask about them before you order, not after.
